“Here you go.” Nicki handed the fast food bag to the impatient customer before welcoming the next to her register. As hot as it was today she could’ve melted right then and there. Speaking of hot, Drake, Nicki’s coworker came walking in the door 2 hours late. Nicki reached under the counter, threw Drake his apron and he caught it in the air. Nicki watched as the female customers never took their eyes off of him as he made his way to the back with her, agitating her. “What was her name?” Nicki questioned, filling up a cup with Sprite.
“Good morning to you too, Boo.” Drake teased, cocking the hat to the side. Nicki despised the way he called her ‘Boo’ made her feel like she was another one of his hoes. Not someone he had known since they were 12. “To answer your question, I think her name was Carly.”
“Carly? As in bold-legged Carly from 42nd?” Nicki asked incredulously, patting the lid down on the cup and rushing it back to the customer.
“Nobody wasn’t worried about her legs.” Drake smirked as he welcomed his first customer. Nicki watched out of the corner of her eye as he flirted with the Dominican girl. The girl twirled her hair around her finger, leaning over exposing her cleavage to an all too eager Drake. He placed his finger under her chin, whispering something into her ear, making her blush and Nicki’s skin boil.
“Miss, are you ok?” Nicki snapped back to her customer at the sound of her voice. She looked down at the cup of sprite she’d crushed under her grip, spilling Sprite all over the counter and register. She hurriedly grabbed some napkins wiping up her mess.
“I’m sorry. I’ll get you another one.” She was letting Drake hoeish ways get to her. It was consuming her every being. Getting in the way of her job. She found herself wanting to strangle Drake and any girl who came close to him. Scratch that, any girl who even looked in Drake’s direction with lustful eyes, she wanted to rip their eyes out their sockets and shove it down their throats. Only Drake could make her have homicidal thoughts, she had no idea why. Maybe it was the way he acted like he had no care in the world, like he could screw anything that was walking. It irked her to the core.
Soon lunch time came around which was much needed. “Boo, you going out for lunch?” Drake asked, slipping his apron off and throwing it back under the counter. Nicki slipped her apron off and placed it under the counter also. It was only where her and Drake put their aprons, everyone else hung theirs in the back but Nicki hated that because it would get the smell of the grease.
“Yea. I’m going to Cold Stones. Coming?” Nicki asked going to get her bag with Drake following. No matter how much Drake got on her nerves, he was still one of her best friends. As they walked, Drake glared at his co-workers whose eyes were following Nicki’s ample assets. Noticing the look on Drake’s face they turned their attention.
“Yup. Member we used to beg your mother everyday to go. Who would’ve thought clumsy lil Nika, would learn how to drive.” Drake teased.
“Shut up.” Nicki laughed hitting his chest. She grabbed her bag and they were on their way to Cold Stones. When they got in line, Nicki grabbed at her purse taking out her wallet.
“You hurt me bad Nic.” Nicki locked up at him confused as he placed a hand over his heart. “You think I’m going to let you pay.” He reached in his pocket taking out a wad of bills. Drake didn’t only work at the fast food place, he also helped his uncle out on the weekends at construction where he received a pretty shiny penny for that. Nicki smiled at him, tucking her wallet back into her bag.
“Let me guess. Strawberry?” Nicki questioned.
“Let me guess. Cookies and Cream.” Their faces mirrored the same smiles. Drake pulled on her hand as they moved up to the register. As Drake ordered Nicki noticed the look on the cashier’s face as she noticed their hands intertwined.
“You have a girlfriend? Too bad.” She glanced at Nicki. Nicki cocked her head back and flared her nostrils. A sure sign she was about to go off. “You’re too cute for that.” She nodded her head towards Nicki.
“Listen..” Nicki looked at her name tag. “TRIXie, you got one more word before my size 5 is up your narrow, infested a--”
“Woah.” Drake grabbed her shoulders pulling her back. “Calm down.”
“Calm down?” Nicki vexed. She snatched her ice cream off the counter. “Dirty Bitch.” Nicki snatched some napkins, leaving Drake and this girl, flirting at the counter as she went to sit at one of the table fuming. ‘Calm down’ he says, like she wasn’t just disrespected and referred to as ‘that’. Like this bitch didn’t just disregard her whole existence. Drake strolled over to the table, holding a napkin between his fingers.
“My bad Boo, I ain’t mean it li--”
“You got her number didn’t you?” Nicki squinted at him. He looked down at the napkin and tossed it.
“Ain’t like I’ma call her.”
“Unbelievable.” Nicki shook her head and took a spoonful of Ice cream into her mouth.
“Aww, is my boo mad?” Drake asked in a baby voice. Nicki rolled her eyes. Drake scooted his seat so that he was sitting next to her. “Boo.” He nudged her with his elbow.
“Quit it Aubrey.” She snapped.
“Ouch, Aubrey huh?” He grabbed the small spoon out of his ice cream and dipped it into Nicki’s. She slapped his hand just as he got some. “Yours taste better than mine. Let’s share.”
“I don’t share Ice cream.” Nicki reminded him, picking up the paper container and turning her body away from Drake. “Why don’t you share with your new bitch over there.” She knew she sounded like a jealous school girl, but she already said it.
“Cause, I want to share with you.” Drake reached over her shoulder and dipped his spoon inside. “Trust me Boo, I’m not checkin for that girl.” He grabbed Nicki’s arm turning her to face him. He saw the look on Nicki’s face and his smile deteriorated. If he didn’t know any better, he’d say she was hurt. “Bo--”
“Do you ever get tired?” Nicki questioned. “Honestly. Is sex all you want out of life? When will you get tired of feeding all these naive girls false hopes that they can be with you, only for you to run to the next ass in less than a week.”
“It’s not like I told her to say the shit she said and it’s not like I’m forcing these girls to do anything they don’t want to. Just havin fun.”
“Fun? At whose expense?” Nicki slipped her phone out of her pocket.
“Where is all of this coming from Nicki.”
“We have to get back to work.” Nicki almost whispered and stood up without another word, leaving Drake confused. How could she blame him, get mad even? He was only 20 and still having fun. All the woman in his life wanted him to settle down. His mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and now his best friend. He don’t ask females to basically worship him, they just do. He got up from the table.
“Call me baby.” Trixie, hollered from behind the register.
“Don’t wait up.” Drake told her walking out and going to Nicki’s car. Maybe that’s what Nicki was talking about, him playing with girls emotions like that. He didn’t know that the emotions that he were playing with was Nicki’s. He was playing with something so fragile, her heart. He had it and she wanted it back but she knew she wouldn’t get it back anytime soon. No matter how much she tried to ignore or deny it she had it bad for Drake.
